REbuild of standy somethings wrong!

Oracle 11.2.04 RH LINUX 6

I've done this so many times cant work out why .
I copied all the database files from the Primary
and created a backup controlfile

All goes well until I do recovery and it asks for an archive log 2 months
old! - yet the file copy was done yesterday!

I'm sure - at least I hope I'm missing something obvious!
