I believe the objections stem from the word obligatory, i.e. the suggestion that everyone is supposed to be obligated to share on a weekly basis something with the list. At least that is the case for me.
Nobody objects to the voluntary sharing of knowledge. After all, that is what the list is about. But if you remove the obligatory and weekly, then the idea is moot since that is what is already happening.

Suggestion:

1. Open the Tools/Rules Wizard menu.
2. Set a rule to send anything with "Weekly tip" in the subject line to the
trash.

For you, the list won't change at all.

What are you saying, that we shouldn't be "allowed" to put a subject of
"weekly tip" on our submission? That we shouldn't be "allowed" to submit a
tip once a week?

The negativity and control I am seeing here about this amazes me.
