Oracle GoldenGate and Java Adapters

Anyone have an opinion if you still have to license GoldenGate Application 
Adapters if you write your own version of the java adapter vs using theirs?  I 
know the definitive answer lies with the Oracle Sales Rep / Your Contract, but 
I wanted to do a quick survey of the land…...
