I haven't worked with Discoverer in quite a wile but it was
a serious piece of ... sranje .... Any tool that allows users to
make their own queries without ever having to learn minor details
like indexes, access methods, optimizer, various forms of keys and
alike is a dangerous stuff which is only good if I am working as a
consultant (see my previous post).
The question is not religious. The question is, for which among the two
OS-es you have available people and what are your reliability needs.
from your question, I surmise that you are a database administrator/manager
at your organization. If you cannot get a decent Linux administrator
which will support your operation on the 7x24x365 basis then you will have
to use Winduhs. Other then that, what OS are you comfortable with as a DBA?
Would you really use the one that you are not really comfortable with, just
because somebody told you that OS A is better then OS B. As a DBA, you will
have a lot to do with OS stuff. My advice is to use the OS you know well.
Other then that, my services are $50/hr + travel expenses. Despite being
a compatriot of mine, I'd still try earning that Civic off you.
