** MVs source 8i to 9i

Hi,


 I have a 9i database and it has some MVs that go to a source
database which is on 8i. This source database is planned to be upgraded
from 8i to 9i. Do I need to drop and create the MVs with this upgrade.
I would like to avoid a drop/create and I am thinking as long as
refresh after the upgrade works : it is fine. Is a complete refresh needed? Any 
comments or
experiences? Thanks for help.
