In this shop, the Junior DBA's are required to go through a practice restore of
each production database once a month. That normally works out to our two
junior dba's doing eight restores a week (one for each production database). I
like the head of this dba group, his mantra is your are only as good as your
last backup. Kinda wish I had that kinda training when I was coming up the
ranks.
We give them interesting tasks to accomplish, sometimes a couple of us old guys
will be in the conference room plotting what to have them to next. It's all
designed to make them better dbas.
