I use background checkpoints started/completed, you can also verify by
dividing redo size statistic by your redo log size
for example
Statistic Total per Second per
Trans
-------------------------------- ------------------ --------------
-------------
background checkpoints completed 12
0.0 0.0
background checkpoints started 13
0.0 0.0
redo size 3,650,524,432 1,000,403.5
341,393.9
the redo log size is 250MB so roughly is 13 log dwitches whcih corresponds
to background checkpoints started
