Import with commit=Y very slow

Hi everybody:

I'm importing a table with 9M records and when I use commit=N it takes
about 5 hours and with commit=Y it takes about 14hours. (NO INDEXES)

Would anybody can tell me why? it shouldn't take longer the commit=N?

I'm using Oracle Enterprise 10.2 and the export file is from 9.2.0.6.
with UNDO tablespace of 3  GB.
