A mml (media manager layer) is required to interface between RMAN and a tape
drive. The mml (networker, DP, netbackup or whatever) manages all the tape
activity and the answer to the questions is
1) Not directly but the tape library software is aware
2) No but again it is not necessary because of the tape library software

Hi DBAs,

1. Is RMAN capable of identifying a Tape reaching its end?
2. Can RMAN be configured to wait for next tape to be loaded, when a tape on
which backup is being written to reaches its end of tape?
