Also,
I can see these mounted and shared cd's from other boxes - just not this
particular one - the one I need - indicating something amiss with the
nfs client on this box.
Can I use a mount command directly? I have tried a simple mount but it
just hangs and hangs.

Have you check owner/group and permissions?
What user is having the issue? Is this user in the group that is same as
missing one?
