One problem I had with ORDS a few years ago was with one web app we had
used mod_plsql, but referred to 30,000+ ocean species images. ORDS
couldn't deploy the app or run it. I think because of the object-oriented
architecture, some piece of it must have been trying to do an inventory of
all the references and it ran out of buffer space and just hanged.
The Science data manager officially retired the old app, to some
scientists' dismay. It had been slated for decommissioning anyway after a
failed attempt to convert it to Plone (ref. plone.org) which couldn't
handle the throughput required.
Then I discovered that OHS12c no longer supported the mod_plsql Apache
module. At first I think I found some contradictions in the documentation
yet couldn't make it work. But because I am stubborn, I installed OHS11g
(it was an intranet app not external) and used that to serve the old app
just in case they needed to refer to it for historical reference purposes.
That was years ago, I doubt anyone is using it at all.
Probably it will disappear entirely soon.
