We have implemented Informatica ILM for EBS (formerly known as
Applimation). The technology provides seamless access from EBS to archive
data (controlled by EBS responsibilities), which makes it easier for the
users as they do not have to learn a new tool or develop new reports. They
can run the same report on the live data or archive data or both. Accessing
both data is usually slower, as it tries a UNION between the live table and
archive table (through db link). There is provision to bring data back to
production system if there is a need.
