With DG you can have a real time (synchronous) redo shipping mode
(Oracle's talk Maximum Availability or Protection)
In principle, redo logs can be replicated(mirrored) at file system level.
But it costs a license too. If you buy that then the whole database can be
implemented as active-passive cluster too. DG is not even necessary then.
Does there exist some pure man's file system metro-mirroring solutions?
