We need 7.3.4 to access 9.2 and vice versa. We created views with database
links on the 8.1.6 that way the 7.3 and the 9.2 can get to each other's
data.

In my case my 9.2 db needed access to 7.3.4 objects, so I put the 7.3.4
tables into the 8.1.7. database and then just pointed synonyms on both
sides to them. You can't create views in the middle db that point to
7.3.4 objects, because the dblink will still complain. Materialized
views would work if your data is relatively static.

I created a middle 8.1.7 database, created the tables in the middle db,
and then created public synonyms to point to them. Works like a charm.

We have several applications still on Oracle 7.3.4 that net to talk to
our upgraded Oracle Financials on 9.2. The applications use Dblinks
which do not work between 7.3 and 9.2. Has anyone run across this
problem and cam up with a solution?
