Oracle does not support communication via db links between version 9 and any
version below 8.

You might try placing db links and synonyms to and from the two
non-compatible systems on a version of Oracle that both of the others can
communicate with, that is, 9 -> 8 -> 7.3 where -> represents a remote
synonym and link to the database version to the right. There are
limitations to this approach such as the objects in question should be
simple tables consisting of common data types like varchar2, number, and
date etc....

Subject: Dblink between Oracle 7.3 and 9.2

We have several applications still on Oracle 7.3.4 that net to talk to
our upgraded Oracle Financials on 9.2. The applications use Dblinks
which do not work between 7.3 and 9.2. Has anyone run across this
problem and cam up with a solution?

Thanks!
Ron Smith
