The other reason is to make the application database-transparent and, somewhere
down the line,
switch to the cheaper alternative (MSSQL). Also, business rules in .NOT layer
would convert
those guys from mere programmers into "business analysts" and "project
managers". This way,
somebody else communicates with the business users and all they do is coding. I
find the
open policy to be the best one. You should have open debate of pluses and
minuses of both,
instead of conducting office politics and lobying with the senior management.
