It’s a brand new database.  There aren’t any app servers yet and no app data
even in the database.  It was created less than 10 minutes prior.

Hi Scott,

I think, it doesn't have  but..  has any process doing a transaction or
rollback ?  on a new database..  this is a strange behavior.

Subject: Database Hang On Shutdown

I have a new Oracle 19.8 install on a new Linux VM.  I’m trying to create a new
database, but when I do a “shutdown immediate”, it just hangs.

This is what’s in the alert log:

That’s it and it just sits there.  I can do a “shutdown abort” then a startup,
but as soon as I try to do a “shutdown immediate” again, it does this.

What is causing it?  How can I fix it?
