I'm pretty sure you can use database control without these plugins. I think you have to do a custom install and deselect these items. And, if you choose them, it's not a one-time cost of 2k each. It's 2k per instance you manage from that database control. I had a sad day discussing these with my Oracle sales guy. -----Original Message----- From: oracle-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:oracle-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Hostetter, Jay M Sent: Monday, September 18, 2006 11:52 AM To: Oracle-L@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Database Control licensing question I'm doing my first installs of 10g on Linux. I fired up the URL for Database Control and I get the message below: >> Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control is designed for managing a single database, which can be either a single instance or a cluster database. The following premium functionality contained within this release of Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control is available only with an Oracle license: Database Diagnostics Pack <cut> Database Tuning Pack <cut> Configuration Management Pack <cut> >> I've done some search on Oracle's web sites. I'm not completely clear on what they mean here. I know that the Diagnostic/Tuning/Mangement packs are normally licensed separately. So does this mean that Database Control includes this functionality with the Oracle database license, or must I license these items separately. If I must license them separately, then I can't really use Database Control without licensing the diagnostic packs. Correct?
