I reviewed the "duplicate database" feature, looks like it was a
feature introduced from 11.2. In another thread Mark suggested "clone
database". Are there fundamental differences between "duplicate" and
"clone" databases?
Yup. The word "clone" is faster to type because it has 4 letters less
than the word "duplicate". Also, cloning may be done without rman, using
SAN. The "duplicate database" command is an rman command. If you decide
to use SnapVault (NetApp) or SRDF (EMC) for cloning databases, RMAN
will not play a major role.
