Sorry, that didn't fix the problem, but ID 400227.1 did lead to a
solution.

might help.. 
 
The solution listed here is also listed in note 430824.1 (& bug
4940260). Both refer to 9i but I don't see either stating that the issue
was resolved in 10g so it might be worth looking into..
