David and All,
I've also had great success with the coaxing method of "tasty
smackerels or amusing playtoys" on both developers and cats. Sunshine
also works well on both. Maggie

You may have been too subtle for the historically-challenged among our
audience. :)
I forget, was it Auschwitz or Dachau that had that had that sign (Arbeit
Macht Frei) over the entrance?

Amusingly, the sign to one of the Emory University student housing
projects looks just like it. (Different wording, of course.)

Incidentally, my cats were quite offended at the statement that
controlling developers is like herding cats.

1) The cats are much smarter.
2) Cats cannot be herded, only coaxed with tasty smackerels or amusing
playtoys. They suggest trying that with the developers instead of trying
to herd them.

Yes, that's true. One thing to remember when talking about developers is
that work liberates, or in German: "Arbeit Macht Frei". Good organization
is the final solution of the developer problem. Of course, I'm a DBA,
in case anyone had any doubts.
