My experience is that since SQL Server DBA staff earn less on average than
Oracle staff the market perception is that there is no need to pay a premium
for having skills in both products. I personally think that's pretty poor,
but it is consistent with the way product sets are evaluated for
compensation packages in our industry Java/C++ developers are unlikely to
earn more than Java or C++ developers for example, though they possibly are
both more skilled and admittedly will have more opportunities open up.
All this is written from a European (specifically UK) perspective.
