Mladen,
Your statement and Thomas's are both true.
The two products do not compete, although they undoubtedly share
customers who use each for their own purpose. Delphix does not present
or sell as a backup utility (although some of our customers use it that
way) and, while Commvault and other backup utilities can clone (and I'm
sure some customers use it that way), it does not virtualize and mask data.
Thanks,
-Tim

A business unit in my company started using Delphix. They’re
extremely happy with it. The primary db they’re cloning is a

Delphix makes database cloning fast, cheap, and easy, as well as
data masking for security in non-production environments,
database upgrades, database migrations from UNIX-to-Linux (U2L),
data center migrations, database migration to hosting or cloud,
and can clone an entire application stack, a good example being
Oracle E-Business Suites. Currently supported databases include
Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL, Sybase, PostgreSQL, and DB2.
