SYSOUT? DASD? I haven't heard such language in a long time. It's more unusual to hear such language these days then to see certain type of performances at superbowl half-time. What you can do about locked trace file is to use oradebug close_trace command. You will first have to locate PID of the holding process (on Unix boxes there are fuser and lsof commands, I don't have any idea about the mainframe world.) and attach to it (SETOSPID). Then you can issue CLOSE_TRACE command which should release the lock on the trace file.
