Thanks Folks for responding. To clarify:- Qs 1 - Should the "backup control file to Trace SQL Script" be Edited & the Missing Datafile NAMES be Removed to enable re-creation of the Controlfile? Qs 2 - If the Above Missing Datafile Names are NOT Removed from the "backup control file to Trace SQL Script", will the Control file Creation Fail? NOTE - The Missing Datafiles had got missed out in the previous Cold Back up to Tape by oversight & are thus Lost forever. NOTE - The respective "backup control file to Trace SQL Script" is also extracted from the Tape along with the Cold Backup. NOTE - After taking of Previous Cold Backup to Tape, the Database had been removed from the Machine. Do you have datafiles in offline/read-only state in your production database? You can identify which MISSING file is associated with which actual data file. MISSINGnnnn is the normal file naming convention, where "nnnn" is the file number in decimal. After creating the controlfile, you may rename all MISSING files with their respective datafile's instead of dropping them. How is the Controlfile to be created in such a case? I am assuming the following Steps:- 1)Missing datafile names should NOT be Removed from the Controlfile Trace SQL Script 2)Control file should be created. 3)Thereafter Missing datafiles should be Dropped.
