Edwin - dbwr_io_slaves is used to simulate asynch io on platforms that do not support it (for example, hp-ux with a filesystem (and not using raw devs)). - db_writer_processes is used to start up multiple dbwr processes that will manage the buffer cache together, if one process alone is too slow. your value of 4 seems a bit high. How large is your sga / buffer cache ? Do you really need 4 processes ? - disk_asynch_io is used to enable the oracle kernel to make use of asynchronous io, IF the OS supports it.
