As sqlplus can get sql files via http as of 9i, I would not 
if using HTTP_PROXY had some consequence.
Though I wouldn't expect an error message on startup.

Oh. Forgot that. 9.2.0.4.0 on both AIX 5.2 and Win2k (same effect)
