The snapshotting is a killer feature and a genuine agility facilitator.
But, I wonder how robust and reliable ACFS really is, as not many people seem
to use it.

It probably is. There were no major changes in ASM for a long time. The last
major change I can remember is the ability to copy stuff to and from OS using
asmcmd.
