Ethan, 1. Are you looking for a sustained LA >= 8? 2. During the 60 minute period, are you looking at a harmonic mean for the time period, or an arithmetic mean? 3. Do you account for standard deviation? -----Original Message----- From: oracle-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:oracle-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Post, Ethan Sent: Monday, November 14, 2005 12:18 PM To: oracle-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: A Challenge This is just for fun, I have a solution but wondering what others would do. I will post mine later. Task: Monitor load average on a unix host. Requirements: * Notify me via email when load exceeds 8 for more than 60 minutes. * After initial alert do not alert me again for at least 2 hours unless the load falls below 8 before the 2 hours expires. * Log the load to a file for historical purposes. * Alert me when the load falls back below 8. Challenge: Can you come up with a solution to this problem using existing scripts/utilities (home grown or otherwise)? Ideally lines/$$ required to implement the better. Just wondering what others might do. This electronic message transmission is a PRIVATE communication which contains information which may be confidential or privileged.
