Where did you hear about the desupport in July 2007? I checked Metalink and
couldn't find any desupport notice for 9i. We are using SSA/BaanIV (an ERP app
- mostly OLTP, but some pretty heavy reporting too, so more of a hybrid).

I would migrate to 10g if I were you. 9i is scheduled for desupport in July
2007. So going to 9i now means another migration in about 16 months.
In your case, you don't *need* to use any new features for your application.
You don't say what kind of application you are supporting, but if you are
"simple" OLTP or warehouse application, then you should be fine. Oracle didn't
break anything major in this new release. They added a ton of new stuff, but
you don't need to use any of it.
I would go now. Plan a migration path. Get your development instances up and
running and have your developers work with it. If all goes well, move forward.

I'm planning an upgrade from 8.1.7 to either 9i or 10g (on AIX5L) and looking
for any recommendations. I'm familiar with the new features in 10g, but I
don't have any experience working with it in a production environment. I feel
a little safer now that the 10gR2 is out but it still seems to be pretty close
to the bleeding edge. I'm curious what kind of performance and reliability you
all have experienced on 10gR2 compared to 9iR2? I know it will vary depending
on your hardware, application, and a million other things but I'm just looking
for general experiences, sentiments, and pros & cons (other than the
well-documented new features) between 9i and 10g. I've seen some negative
comments here about Grid Control, but what about the individual Database
Control product - any major problems with it?
