But isn't that reading the datafile's directly? What if we do not want to use
the current database but rather a prior backup?

You just clone the pdb, via create pluggable database xyz from pdb1@sourcedb.
It will copy db files and then 'recover' them by itself.

to use active duplication so that I do not lose PDB4 and PDB5. Is that correct?
Also, active duplication only reads the source database's datafiles not the
backupsets, is that correct as well.
