John,

We were running into the same issues on several of our servers (both linux
and windows). We discovered it was a password issue. The password for dbsnmp
was not right. We altered the password in the database and then in OEM we
went to the agent management screen and updated the password there.

Hope this helps.

Subject: 10G grid shows database down when it is not

Does anyone have a solution for this 10G Grid / agent problem on windows
2000?

After installing the 10g agent (10.1.0.2) on various windows 2000
servers, the 10G grid (10.1.0.3) shows the database is up but after
about 5 minutes it shows the database as down with error:

Failed to connect to database: ORA-12538: TNS:no such protocol adapter
(DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach).

The database is not down.

The following error appears in the agent trace file (emagent.trc)=20

Process stderr =3D em_error=3DCould not connect to
dbsnmp/(DESCRIPTION=3D(ADDRESS=3D(PROTOCOL=3DTCP)(HOST=3Dgenusapp1.canfor=
.ca)(Po
rt=3D1521))(CONNECT_DATA=3D(SID=3DP92A)))
: ORA-12538: TNS:no such protocol adapter (DBD ERROR:
OCIServerAttach)

This happens with both 9.2.0.4 and 8.1.7.4 databases.

Oracle says it is bug # 3512622 but there is no fix at this time.
