Michael,
That is a good data point - so the low end of their salary range seems on
par for where a new photographer should be, or at least in line with the
past (almost) 2 decades.
If the salary range is commensurate with experience, and you have someone
with 5 years experience, then $80k high-end would equate to a 7% pay rise
over 5 years from that base.
NYC is far different than the rest of the country - things like % of
income dedicated to housing is what outsiders view as ridiculous.
$60-80k seems like a good range for a show-up-and-shoot ophthalmic
photographer.
Around 25% higher than what i would expect a similar role in Philadelphia
to pay on either end of the scale.

I lived in NYC on 42K as a retinal angiographer right out of school just

Good to see that base pay in NYC has gone up 2.253931% per year over the
last 16 years (yes i did the math). Just FYI the average rate of inflation
from 2002 to 2018 is 2.05644%

I'd guess there aren't many photographers living comfortably in
Manhattan, but rather they commute from the outer boroughs or Jersey.
