No, I disagree. Many of our “Mac” users are clueless. Not the young
techies, but the MD’s. They have videos they haven’t tested, etc etc and they
show up at the LAST minute.

So, working in the real world, not the world as I wish it to be, I have to be
prepared for all of these contingencies. I’m getting educated more and more
about all of the nuances of the different Mac systems so I thank all of you for
the on line assistance.

Honestly any Mac user knows to bring their connector. I did hundreds of lecture
support sessions while at Columbia and never had an issue but I also had a Mac
as a backup in case there was ever an issue. One suggestion I would make would
be to have whomever arranges the lecturers add in the communications to the
speakers to make sure to bring their connector to ensure compatibility and they
be prepared to use your PC in the event you can't support their configuration.

As Sandor said these MDs are used to speaking at places they can't BYO. You
should get the dept to purchase a Mac Laptop or perhaps mini and use it for
lectures. Macs are ubiquitous in the edu and medical field. Soon you are going
to have physicians wanting to present off their iPads or iPhones.

Also, you can in many cases export the presentation into a package format or a
PC compatible PDF and run on PC. So if you are ever in a bind there are work
arounds built into most of these presentation software platforms.

Yep. Its called progress. Things, like dongles change and evolve.

Interesting thing about current thunderbolt connection is that it
replaces monitor and data connections (like usb) with one unified connector at
super high data rates. But maybe we should go back to VGA and floppies and
parallel connectors for printers.

Also if any Mac user does not carry the dongle for their specific unit
(usually you only make that mistake once) they aren't properly prepared to
speak anywhere :).

So, if I want to be prepared and have a Mac Dongle for all of those Mac
users that show up at my meetings, and they all have different versions of
MacBook, MacBook Pro, etc I need a variety of dongles?

Ah, I’m disillusioned. I thought Mac was the supreme being that did
everything the right way. Seems they have issues also. Yes, consistency and
standardization, always the problem.

Will take connector that DOES work to Apple store and get proper one.

        Thanks for the suggestions!

It all depends on which model you have.

Apple in their "infinite wisdom" has 3 different ones on offer that I
know of, depending on when you bought it.

My MacBook Pro was the first model they bought out, and my adaptor is
similar to the ones for PCs.
Now my wife's MacBook Pro is 2 years old, and I had to buy one for her,
and it is a VGA to mini plug due to the smaller size of the connector socket in
the laptop.

NOW, I heard that with the new models, they have changed the connectors
yet again. :o( WHY DIDN'T THEY LEAVE THEM ALONE. If it ain't broke, DON'T fix
it !!!!

My advice is go to an Apple dealer with your laptop and do what I did,
try them until you find the one that fits.
Their descriptions of these plugs ARE very confusing to say the least.

OK all of you Mac Heads. I need a DVI to VGH adaptor to connect a Mac
Book to a PC Projector for Grand Rounds

A dizzying array of adaptors on Amazoncom. They all LOOK alike, with
different discriptions. All say “for Macbook )

Yet, how come so many? I already ordered one I thought would work and
the female end to connect to the MacBook is too large

Don’t wish to go down this road again. Why not just one generic size?
