I had fights with teachers from the time I was in first grade because I read braille left-handed and did other things right-handed, it all started in arithmetic when in order to keep up with my class I was reading left-handed and doing a cube slate right-handed. I can read numbers and my watch with my right hand and that is about it. I broke my left collarbone in 1997 and had a difficult time reading braille, could only read about two pages at a sitting, until I started keeping my hand still and moving the book or magazine with my right hand, still, I read mostly with cassette in the first several weeks. Using the Optacon was easy if I could get everything set at a level that was comfortable, unfortunately, my desk at work was a problem, too high for the injured arm most of the time. I have never used both hands to read braille even though I was taught to read that way. When the teacher wasn't watching or when I was on my own I read with my left hand and that's how it has remained.
