Very helpful. Thank you. Do you know where I might obtain the training manuals
for the Optacon?

Hi,
You probably do not have to open up the CRT lens to use it. The collar ring
can be slid up or down the length of the cylinder to adjust the image; however
it may be locked in place. You may need to gently rotate the Collar to unlock
it, in order to slide it up or down.
If your CRT lens does not seem to be adjustable, it may be because you need to
twist the collar to unlock it to allow adjustment.
Some of the modern LCD computer screens can be read with the standard Optacon
camera, so you may not need to use your CRT camera on them.
However, some of the modern computer screens can be read better with either the
CRT camera or the Calculator lens. It depends on whether or not the display is
actively lit or not. The calculator and CRT lenses do not light the reading
surface, and they also can help when the print image is below a transparent
cover plate, requiring the camera to focus below the first surface on which the
camera rests.
The standard Optacon camera lights up and also focuses on the print on the
surface on which the camera rests.
The magnifier lens also might work on a modern LCD display, keeping in mind
that, like the standard Optacon lens, it supplies the light and focuses only on
the first surface.
Cordially,
Noel
