My wife has a portable manual typewriter upstairs, and I might have to get
it out for writing checks if I can't get my HP Laserjet M402 Printer to
print them. I still remember how to do the arithmetic to equate distances
to lines and spaces. These checks are of the raised-line variety, so I can
feel the points where I should type, then set tabs on the typewriter. I
typed on a manual unit for years, but when I went to work in an office on an
electric typewriter, I "lightened out" my touch too much for reliable typing
on a manual. I am pretty sure I can "trim up" my touch again for the manual
machine if I need to do so. Besides, I need to type only an occasional
check these days, so I should be able to do that.
Isn't it interesting, though, that lots of these kids nowadays wouldn't know
what that thing is if you put one in front of them. I can hear it now:
"What's that contraption?"

Hi,
I have a royal manual typewriter and I replaced the ribbon. I used the
Optacon to find out whether the ribbon was working. It looked right but it
still was not. I changed the setting on the typewriter. I guess I had it on
stencil. (smile).
Happy Thanksgiving to all,
Catherine
