As I stated the other day, I think I do have the 2200 but now with the part
numbers and the knowledge that both models use the same ribbons, I'm on my
way to ordering some new ribbons.

Hello Linda and other interested list members,
This is Richard Oehm from Oehm Electronics. We sold all of the Smith
Corona typewriter ribbon cartridges, that we had in stock, for Optacon
users. However, here is some very useful information, for all of you
Optacon users still using the Smith Corona typewriter, and the
appropriate Optacon typewriter lens. First, all of the Smith Corona
typewriters modified and sold by Telesensory with their accompanying
Optacon typewriter lens modules wer part of the Smith Corona Coronamatic
series of portable electric typewriters. It turns out that all of the
models of Smith Corona "coronamatic" portable electric typewriters, used
the same type of ribbon cartridges. There were two models of the Smith
Corona typewriter that were modified and sold by TSI. They were the
Smith Corona Coronamatic 2200, and the Smith Corona coronamatic 2500.
As I stated previously, these two typewriters along with the other
models in the "coronamatic" series all use the same ribbon cartridges.
The regular black replacement ribbon cartridge for these coronamatic
Smith Corona typewriters is widely available, from a variety of sources,
it is part C17657. These new black nylon ribbon cartridges are usually
sold in a two pack format, so you can obtain two ribbon cartridges for
approximately $16.00 plus shipping charges and sales tax if applicable.
If you want to find the best possible price for these black nylon
replacement Smith Corona ribbon cartridges, I suggest you search "yahoo
Shopping", and or "EBay". At just about any time you conduct a search,
you will find that an amazingly large number of vendors are selling
these black nylon replacement ribbon cartridges, for the Smith Corona
coronamatic series of typewriters. You will be able to purchase any
quantity of these black nylon ribbon cartridges, you like.
There were many other ribbon cartridges made for these Smith Corona
coronamatic series of portable typewriters, and these other ribbon
cartridges are much harder to find. Here are two other part numbers for
Coronamatic ribbon cartridges you might want to obtain. Part C17616 is
a white "cover up" correction ribbon cartridge. Part C17558 is a high
print quality "one time only" black film ribbon cartridge. At present,
it's possible to obtain these latter ribbon cartridges as well as repair
services for those old Smith Corona Coronamatic typewriters from a small
company known as "Will's typewriter repair services". This mall
business is located in Dunkirk New York. The street address of this
company is 5117 Fairlane Avenue Dunkirk New York 14048. Their telephone
number is (716) 366-1424. I have no direct experience with this
company, but a customer of ours indicates, that they offer for sale, a
wide variety of Smith Corona coronamatic replacement ribbon cartridges,
and offer typewriter repair service for the Smith Corona coronamatic
typewriters as well. Apparently, they're not set up to take credit
cards, so it would probably be necessary to pay them with a check or
money order in advance, before receiving merchandise you've ordered from
them. I hope this information is useful and helpful. Of course, if you
need an Optacon typewriter lens module repaired, we can perform this
service for you at Oehm Electronics.
