Yes: Post production and CGI, necessary evils.

Clipping is not a good thing.  In fact, clipping anything (especially before 
compression) is really bad.  This is one reason that
consumer video ought to go to 10 bits - to allow a calibrated headroom in the 
overall system architecture.
