“There are two sides to every story...”
We all are familiar with this old saw, and the multitude of “memes” that have
spun out of it. Today we live with the unfortunate reality of a world filled
with “facts” and “alternative facts.”
Today, and tomorrow, Mark Zuckerberg will be testifying to Congress, trying to
defend the obvious lack of “neutrality,” and candor from a corporation that
touches more than a billion residents of this planet. A corporation used in
both the 2012 and 2016 Presidential campaigns to influence the electorate, by
both “friends” and international “enemies.”
The debate about the definition of “Net Neutrality” has evolved, as I predicted
in it would, in numerous arguments with Bert. The reality that the Obama
administration shaped the debate, and used the FCC to pick winners and losers,
is now glaringly obvious. We now know that Obama’s “winners,” Internet Edge
Providers are anything but neutral. And we know that The Title II decision was
strongly influenced, if not purposely designed, to protect these edge providers
from competition.
It will be interesting to see if the subject of Net Neutrality comes up today,
or tomorrow, as Zuckerberg is grilled by the political pundits on both sides of
this story. And it will be interesting to see if these pundits decide to do
their job and do something about it...
Regards
Craig
