John, Truer words were never spoken. Furthermore, not only will the spectrum freed up by the completion of the transition to digital be used for competing services, switching to DTV will also allow closer channel spacing, and open up the ability to add several new television stations in each market. If Bert is right and the DTV reception problem is a thing of the past, we could see a renaissance in the issuance of new broadcast licenses. With the proliferation of cable channels, it wouldn't be too hard to find enough content to fill new channels with, and expand the USDTV model to even greater number of services. (Think about it, one free ESPN, multiplexed with subscription-only ESPN 2, ESPN Classic!)
