If combining the desktop keyboard/mouse/trackpad GUI and the touchscreen
GUI is such a great idea, why are so many Windows users sticking with
Windows 7, despite the fact that Microsoft is offering the Windows 10
upgrade for free?

For the same reason you, Craig, stick with the old linear TV streams.
Ludditedness, laziness, momentum, some dose of cluelessness no doubt, fear of
the unknown, and so on.

I like Win10. It works very well, with a few apps here and there that require
more work. The business about touch screen or mouse is just uninformed
silliness, perennially blown way out of proportion. Win10 operates very easily
with either type of interface. It adjusts according to the display you have.

Read this:

As of Oct 7, its adoption rate easily beat out all the previous ones, including
Win7. If the growth curve levels off some, that's shouldn't be surprising.
