Or, simply left click on Start and then left click again on Program Files.
From the resultant drop down menu select accessories: all tools are from
available there.

Then it sounds as if you really want a Linux machine, Bert.  What sort of 
scripts are you going to write?

As for disk defrag and cleanup, you simply right click on the Start button, 
click on explore, right click on C:, choose Properties, then click on the 
tools tab. There you'll find error checking, defragmentation, and backup 
options.  On the General tab there is a box to click for disk cleanup.

You can check for updates anytime you wish by opening Internet Explorer, 
click on Tools, then click on Windows Update.  But Windows Update should be 
setup to automatically check for updates.

Been this way since Win XP AFAIK.
