In short, reading the article, these companies have, and exercise, their
monopoly powers. Of course people hate that. And on top of that, for
politicians to attempt to change that state of affairs cannot possibly work.
A politician cannot make Google Fiber or Verizon cable up the entire country
with FTTH. Because that isn't economically viable. Similarly, politicians can't
force multiple broadband provider competitors in every neighborhood. Because
these other companies would want no part in it. Not with the current state of
technology.
No one forced Google and Verizon to quit expanding their networks. They did
this on their own.
The lefties invent some narrative that some big bad ogre is causing this. And
the yahoos on the right pretend that the lack of competition is not even an
issue, and create absurd theories that even less regulation would change
anything.
