[JS] Supporters of the competing Blu-ray technology, championed by Sony,
should not take heart just yet, as the spokesperson took the opportunity
to=20
remark about what has been perceived to be one of that format's current=20
deficiencies: "Right now, dense formats such as Blu-ray have slower=20
transfer speeds than current DVD drives."=20

(Huh ?)[Jeroen]

1X BD-ROM drive transfer speed is around 50Mbps.
A typical 8X DVD-ROM drive transfers speed is around 80Mbps, or 160Mbps
for 16X.

That isn't significant if you are streaming premastered HD video with an
advanced codec at 7 - 12 Mbps; but it's hourglass time if you are
copying big files, like games.
