This is clearly not a recent problem - i.e. a failure of the “current” FCC.
It is a prime example of how regulation at the local, state and Federal levels
creates the kind of cronyism you constantly rail against.
And this article reminds us of how the politicians fix things - “we need a
bigger Federal program to deal with all the problems that the regulatory
bureaucracies, lawyers and lobbyists have created.
As the article relates, since 1995 we have spent more than $100 BILLION to
subsidize rural broadband, with little to show for it...
