Here in Silicon Valley, where we get in excess of 15-OTA TV channels, only one broadcaster informs the viewing public what channel number to find digital programming. The TV channel that announces Digital on Channel so and so is not even one of the four top networks. The only information about digital programming is a little acknowledgement about digital programming made available by some company. Now, if I was one of the 10s of million a non-informed consumers, I would think I was watching a digital program on my regular TV set. Especially if the program I was watching was in letterbox format, which a lot of the TV programs are now-a-days, or if I had a DVD player and knew I could watch one of these new "digital marvels" on my old TV set. That is a major reason why digital TV has not taken off. You can purchase a STBs that will receive both ATSC and NTSC and play the program on either legacy TV sets or digital TV sets for under $300, but why would a consumer want to spend the money if they do not know what channels are digital? With all the money TV stations have spent installing digital channels, I can't for the life of me understand why they are not promoting their digital programs. So, while the retail electronic stores seem to lack intelligence in how they place ATSC tuner equipped products on their shelves, maybe they do that because of the lack of requests for such products. Remember, shelf space is at a premium and no retailer would put products in high demand back where low volume products reside. Ralph Ralph P. This weekend in Greensboro, NC (47th Market): - Progressive Scan DVD w/Component Out & Digital Audio - $49 (Center Isle - Pallet w/additional Pallets not far away - HDTV Stand Set-Top Tuners - ONE Open Box in Best Buy (No Price) (One dislay unit at Wal-Mart) - HDTV Cable Sign-Up - 20 Foot Isle Display - HDTV Satellite Display - similar to cable The reason the consumers don't get it is because Cable and Satellite are selling it and marketing it. Who is promoting OTA HDTV? Nobody, at least in the stores in Greensboro, NC. FYI - If the broadcasters bought display space in the stores like DirecTV, Dish and Cable did, it might be fair. Do you believe that broadcasters are going to do that?
