Uh oh, Craig. Another news item that you haven't deciphered.
First off, I already commented on the point that "it depends who is doing the
paying," when it comes to paid prioritization. If it's the special interests
doing the paying, aka collusion with the service provider, then clearly it
would be a net neutrality issue. If it's the user doing the paying, then
clearly it is not. In this case, it would be the user. It's pretty freakin'
obvious that net neutrality does not mean that the user can't decide what he
uses the Internet for, right? A user does not need to feel obliged to browse
all web sites equally. Duh.
Secondly, in this case, Verizon Wireless seems to be throttling all video
quality equally, depending what plan the user is paying for. So it's not
preferential to certain sources. So again, not a net neutrality issue either.
Hint: if you don't see collusion with the content source(s), then it's not a
neutrality issue.
Thirdly, and once again this requires you to connect the dots (which is always
a problem), this is another example to debunk your idea that wireless broadband
is a viable alternative for household Internet broadband. The technical
limitations are real, so it simply won't scale, as 4G service anyway.
Would Bert prefer that the FCC decide what companies should offer,
The net neutrality rules can stand, no problem. Even with telephone service,
the FCC does not preclude unlimited call plans, fixed rate long distance plans,
or other such. It's not a neutrality issue.
Craig, instead, as always, would champion any plan where the sources of content
and the service provider could collude with impunity. He has never grasped the
concept of net neutrality, as evidenced above once again. That's why I don't
buy any of his objections to net neutrality.
Bert
