Yes, the desire to rebuild domestic manufacturing of telecom is clearly a
factor; one can understand that this might appeal to Trump, but my guess is
that competing with the Telecoms would not appeal to the President.
The justification based on self driving vehicle makes no sense at all. I cannot
imagine any self-driving vehicle design that would RELY on a wireless data
network that could fail for even a nanosecond. There is a reason they are being
called “autonomous vehicles.”
As I first commented, this just sounds like another “Hail Mary” by the NSA to
see all forms of electronic communication.
