When I was at the U of Toronto, we ended up with 2 network cards on the same network that had the same MAC address and like I said, it totally confounded 2 guys from computing services and myself for hours. I can't recall what the exact symptoms were, but it was just a whole lot of really strange behaviour. If I remember correctly, it took a packet sniffer to finally figure out the problem. The cards were the same model from the same company, but bought a few months apart.
